Frequently asked questions
What is the Let Property Campaign?
It is an HMRC initiative that lets landlords declare previously unreported rental income and pay what is due, often with reduced penalties compared with HMRC finding it first.
Does it apply to overseas property?
Yes. HMRC says the campaign is for landlords who owe tax through letting out residential property in the UK or abroad. An offshore element carries higher penalty maximums, and the disclosure form has an offshore option. We confirm how your facts should be presented, and coordinate the Indian side with Metta Accountants India where it applies.
Can a company or trust use the Let Property Campaign?
No. It is for individual landlords letting residential property. Companies and trusts disclosing rental income, and lettings of non-residential property such as a shop or garage, are outside it.
If my spouse and I both have undeclared rent, do we make one disclosure?
No. Each person makes their own disclosure showing their own share of the income.
Will I definitely face penalties?
Penalties depend on why the income was not declared and how fully you co-operate. A voluntary, complete disclosure generally attracts lower penalties.
Can I do this myself?
You can, but errors or omissions can raise penalties. We handle the calculations and the dealings with HMRC so it is done properly.
